The Republican National Committee announced that Tampa, Florida will host the 2012 Republican National Convention. GOP delegates will choose the Republican 2012 nominee for President of the United States during the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa during the week of August 27, 2012. Embattled RNC Chairman Michael Steele announced the decision. Tampa was able to beat out the two other finalist cities – Phoenix and Salt Lake City. Even the RNC was unwilling to schedule a major convention in Phoenix after the recent controversial anti-immigration law that Arizona passed. There is speculation that because Mitt Romney is expected to be a candidate in 2012, Sarah Palin was unwilling to have the convention hosted in the home of the Mormon church.
